The Meeting

We independently decided to spend our summer of 2011 biking across the country with an organization called Bike And Build. On the first day in Charleston, SC when all the riders were meeting each other for the first time, we were sitting next to each other and immediately started talking. Both of us were thinking “this person seems pretty cool”. Next thing we knew we started biking most every day together (conveniently we are the same speed bikers) and a brief friendship blossomed.

We soon started dating. On the trip, we went out to restaurants, hiked Pike’s Peak together, all the normal dating things. There was one caveat, we would break up at the end of summer.

The summer was a rollercoaster, but only the beginning of a longer journey.

Long Distance

After Bike and Build, Dane kept texting Lisa saying “I love you”. Lisa, not sure what to do, asked “Do you want to stay together and do long distance or no?”. Dane immediately replied “Sure.”.

Here starts 6 years of nightly Skype conversations, trips to California and Delaware every other month and a couple of holidays together. Lisa graduated with her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Dane worked at Yardsellr, started Marvina, and worked at Hivemapper.

Phew… it’s over now.

Together

After graduation, Lisa moved out to sunny California and in with Dane to a wonderful house on San Bruno Mountain.

Dane proposed on May 12, 2018 and Lisa immediately said “Yes.”.

Forever
